McInroy and her children, Julia, 7, and Gabriel, 4, were just one family among many gathered at the Quispamsis Memorial Arena on Wednesday evening. Shortly after 7 p.m., more than 100 people filled the space.

"I just would like to see my kids active. Throughout the whole winter it's hard to get them outside, so they're now getting into skating and hockey and that sort of thing, so why not sign up?" McInroy said while filling out a form for her daughter at the Kennebecasis Valley Figure Skating Club.

At the Expo, McInroy registered her children up for hockey and skating, as well as Brownies and Beavers.

"I think (the Expo) is fantastic. It's like a one-stop shop. It means you don't have to think about it for the rest of the year," she said.

Dozens of organizations were represented at the event and everywhere parents were signing their children up for activities and asking questions. Organizations like KidSing, the Rothesay Ballet School and Poley Mountain had booths.

Mary Ellen Gray, with the Saint John Amateur Speed Skating Club, was speaking to visitors at her booth.

She said it was a good place to attract more people and get information out to potential speed skaters.

"We've had a lot of traffic. There's been a lot of people going through. I think with speed skating in particular, there's a real interest in it this year because of the Olympics. The kids come up and they see speed skating and they want to try it," she said.

She said the event is a great opportunity for families to get out and plan activities for their children before the fall season begins.

The Expo runs again tonight at the Quispamsis Memorial Arena from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
